sooo guys - need help - I need to cook a vego paleo meal on sat night. It has to be a little special as it is her birthday and all she is doing is coming to mine to chillax, so I wanted to put on some yummy yet paleo food but then got stuck on the vego side of it.. Everything I like that is paleo, has meat (and I dont eat fish, so no fish either)..
Anyone got a yummo recipe that they like and have done before and feel the need to share?

Couple of items I was wondering about their paleo-ness:
Unrefined unbleached chemical free harvested by hand fine organic sea salt?
Organic rapadura sugar?
Pure raw cacao chocolate powder?
Pure raw cocoa butter?
Organic apple cider vinegar?
Quinoa?- quinoa flakes/flour/puffed.

Cheers.

cravings....hrrmmm...EVERYTHING :P
loving date and almond bars from the organic place down the road (just blended dates rolled in chopped up almonds).

For anyone north of the river, the organic place on Charles has a resident paleo enthusiast and he had some good suggestions etc.

cravings... coffee.... and I'm hoping the jerky would come soon coz I really want a lean protein snack....

love organic on charles!!! altho I frown on their penchant for imported nuts (support local!!)

isn't substituting all the sugary snacks with "paleo" sugars defeating the purpose of breaking your body's reliance and addiction on sugars?

Jerky is in!!!

Calen,

From past readings (and a genteral interest in nutrition) my opinion on your list is:

- Unrefined unbleached chemical free harvested by hand fine organic sea salt? - no, but I'm still using it in moderation
- Organic rapadura sugar? - no, its still cane sugar
- Pure raw cacao chocolate powder? - yes if its pure cacao, moderation
- Pure raw cocoa butter? - yes, also coconut butter but hard to come across
- Organic apple cider vinegar? - no
- Quinoa?- quinoa flakes/flour/puffed. - no, even though it isn't a grain. While it offers protein, it’s still pretty carb intensive, and also contains a protein substance that can cause upsets similar to gluten.

Also, here's a good reference table of foods
http://altmed.creighton.edu/Paleodiet/Foodlist.html

If I've made any mistakes poeple should correct me =)
There's also some conflicting info around. I guess you can allow most of the things on your list, just don't over-do it.

Thanks Tracey you paleo-ninja.. I will be attempting to make chocolate paleo cookies now!

Carter - I think substituting the crap sugars for 'paleo' sugars is the only way I could get through the first week.. haha.. after the first week, i may be more inclined to cut them down more but atm my paleo sugar snacks are helping me get through the days.. :P

Is anyone else eating HEAPS of food and not feeling satisfied?! Yes I am drinking lots of water. Maybe I need to get some paleo friendly sugar foods :(
I'm noticing some recipes with tomato - is this in or out??

Best of luck guys! The 1st week was definately the toughest. I felt gross the 1st week but after that you will not believe how good you feel! Clears the mind too :)

At 1st I was constantly eating to try but after the 1st week I found that I was feeling full for a REALLY long time. So I just had very tiny little snacks inbetween.

Even though I'm not taking part in the paleo challenge again, I took away some very valuable information about diet and have stuck to giving up a few things in my diet. Though I am definately no angel when it comes to diet.

Yummmoo that recipe looks delish! Definately going to try that one out this weekend!

I'm failing a bit too much for my liking. Was really hoping to be stronger.

Cravings for McDonalds, chocolate and soft drink.

Claire F:
Yeah I have that problem and I'm eating like a horse.
One thing that definitely helps is adding a cup or so of cooked brocolli to your meal. After a week or so you can also up your fat intake. And as Astrid said, you're hungry at first (and will eat a lot more) but it gets better. Its pretty much your body craving the insulin responses its used to.

Claire - tomatoes are in unless you have chosen to cut out nightshades aswell...

September 2, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterHayden

Just as an Fyi I get coconut butter from my local iga.. Awesome stuff and I actually don't really use olive oil at all anymore.. I don't know how everyone feels about supplements but I find chromium and glutamine really balances out the insulin factor if I'm really feeling it

Almost cheated with my salad and steak for dinner.. salad was quite boring (pak choy, baby spinach, carrot, mushrooms and onion) and I ALMOST put bottled lemon juice on it... until I realised we have a freaking awesome lemon tree downstairs!

also, which IGA is this with the coconut butter Claire?

September 2, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCalen

I'm good so far. Today went really well with no cravings.
Went out for dinner and got Grilled fish and steamed veg. I can't believe beans are out...I bloody love beans.

As a friendly tip for eating out. Sit with your back to the dessert stand. After a little while you forget that its there. Ask for the bill, pay and leave.

Calen - there seems to be some disagreement in my house as to whether what I have is actually 'coconut butter' or is coconut oil in a solid state....although I must say that it is called 'coconut butter' on the bottle. In any event its very good organic coconut oil/butter and I get it from the IGA in south perth.
